TOPIC: Revival of the chat

One should have a beta site so one can compare the two statistically side by side.
Lets not forget our scientific approach |

Well, that would be a problem since people are not going to visit the beta site, there's no purpose in doing that. It can only be used as a backup and testing ground for new components.

I've been getting more complaints about the chat, its performance and the way it's incorporated into the forum (the duplication problem for example). Since I cannot address these problems to full extent at the moment (you know, the exams) I have decided to remove the chat - temporarily. The chat will come back online when it is adapted well enough. We want to keep the site fully functional and since there is a conflict between the functionality of the forum and the chat we have to choose what is a more important priority - the forum.
This is not an end to the forum/chat combination, the chat just needs to take a vacation for a couple of weeks and visit her family. EDIT: Try using the private message system in the meanwhile for direct interpersonal communication. If you have any questions don't hesitate to drop me a line. An excellent decision in my view, and a shining example of quick decision making without the need to have a vote on it

I'm sure its not down to that, as you probably know, I'm a great fan of chat myself, and look forward to a better working system in the future, so be assured I will do what I can to make sure we have an avenue for people to critise us freely.
It was an operational decision based on quality of service being reduced below that which was considered acceptable, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to place the chat via another tab someplace so we could continue chatting in that way without degrading the speed of the main forums at all. |
