TOPIC: My own hydroponics project

My own hydroponics project 2 years, 2 months ago #15746

Hey, after I finish studies for the summer, me and my friends were going to try and make a hydroponics "tower" just a tall box, and will try and get it to be effective outside and energy efficient. Just wondering if you got any specific research questions that need answering or advice, but if you say use indoor lighting and energy might tell you to go away

I am not an expert in Hydroponics, but do you have a drawing yet?

Re:My own hydroponics project 2 years, 2 months ago #15748

nothing past a rectangle with a few levels, as I said a few friends are helping me, so wont be any designs until they have been full involved in the project. Different ideas I have thought is a module based system allowing the containers to be stacked backed onto a south facing wall of a house or something. Basically conserving space, outside production of food, and possibly some automation. Once I have a definate design meeting will be more descriptive.

What do you intend to grow there?

Re:My own hydroponics project 2 years, 2 months ago #15751

my next project with my system will look at making our own nutrients using fish poo. Will that work?

Re:My own hydroponics project 2 years, 2 months ago #15753

Growing to be honest I havn't really given it much thought, some kind of food, depends what time of year i build it. And homemade nutrients sounds good but having slept on it I think this is going to be more project producing something self contained a efficient for hydroponics, and then I can make experiments after its made.

I would appreciate sharing pictures / designs, especially on such a small scale. We have about 100 boxes on the city roofs already and expanding fast - now designing automated hydroponic system.
When you will have any, feel free to mail it here:

Animal waste typically contains nutrients plants can use although it may need to be processed using fungi or microorganisms first.

What you should be asking yourself is which nutrients it produces and how much. What exactly are we talking about?

Maybe we should create a section of the website which is focusing on the application of projects like these and do-it-yourself kits?

Would be appreciated, I too am considering dabbling (again) in this and pooling information and plans would be very useful.

Practical applications would maybe be the way which we could make ourselves relevant with.

Alot of people are interested in this type of operation too. EoS and not.
Alot of self-sustainability fever is about and could be milked for the good of mankind! and science.
