TOPIC: Healthcare

Healthcare 4 weeks, 1 day ago #16888

Hello EOS,

I've read pretty much all of the literature in the 'Articles' section, and have skimmed through the new Design.pdf.

It has come to my attention, though I may be mistaken, that there isn't reference to healthcare or social care and how this would be managed by the technate. Since it involves technology applied directly to people, and often amounts to significant labour time (by doctors, nurses, carers, microbiologists etc.) where does it fit in to EOS's vision?

Any enlightenment to your number one lurker would be greatly appreciated.

Dan.

It goes into the general bucket of "expert management" but with an overlap into the "people side". The medical professionals decide on appropriate care measures etc. but people in their communities can accept or reject various treatments. We don't give any more details on that mainly because we have no one in EOS in that area of expertise.

The principle is the same as for the military and all the other specific areas that have been inquired about before. Essentially:

1. Medical holons organize their internal structure via expert management and provide medical services.

2. The population (which may include people from these or other holons) then individually decide which medical holon's services to use, in a free-market sort of way. These people then allocate a share of their Energy Credits within a given accounting period in "exchange" for the services, which the holons use to facilitate their resources.

3. Certian holons may have criteria the subholons need to adhere to in order to be allowed to participate in their resource pool. Like there may be a "Mainstream medicine" holon that people allocate some of their Energy Credits to, with much the same professional standards as the existing medical establishments, which would provide resources to all medical holons that fit the bill and want to cooperate in it, according to expert management.

Since everybody is free to choose any holon to get a service and everybody is given an equal share of Energy Credits to allocate, the freedom to choose one's own medical treatment is guaranteed. The only way for a person not to have enough Energy Credits to cover for whatever medical needs they may have, is if the total production capacity of the Technate is not sufficient to cover everybody's medical needs (which sounds unlikely if the Technate is, for example, global or Europe-wide).

Medical practitioners are also free to form a holon (as all other people), and smaller holons are free to choose bigger holons to try to join, the "market" is much more dynamic and they cannot get locked into poorly functioning bureaucracies, if anyone who is willing to work with them can do better.

LP,
Jure
