TOPIC: NET sectorialisation.

NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4478

Would it be an idea to create sectorialisation secretaries which would be constituting "regional directors" when having recruited enough members to sustain a local movement? It could offer a carrot for members to start to more actively recruit, and also offer a cell for some sort of sectorial ribbon network.

Here's the sectorial proposal.

Re:NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4483

In short yes but I think we should wait until we have members who have paid and then look at how many members we have in each sector. If we have a sector with x number of members then I think we should open a position for Sector- Director. Sound ok? The question is, what should x be? Perhaps 10 people?

It's a pretty good idea...

However, considering that we are still very few, we might have to wait a bit until there's enough people in each area... As for the areas where there are already enough members, like the Scandinavian Sector, I think that the idea can already be implemented...

I have a question - is there any other NET member from the Central sector? And by that I mean from Romania, Hungary, Poland, Moldavia?

Poland, yes. There are two.

That's great...

Another question - how many members are in the Scandinavian Sector?

Re:NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4498

About 15. Most of them inactive on the forum.

Re:NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4499

Neat...

I only asked this because I observed that not much has been done in the Energy Survey sector... You might be just enough to start a regional Energy Survey - of the Scandinavian sector... Might have been done, and if so, I apologise for the question...

Given our resources, quite much has been done. Andrew just forgot to publish all his results n the solar area here on the site.

Re:NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4518

Awesome...

Re:NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4520

Well, we're a new organisation, and the data has to wait just another week for being ready. On the good side, Andrew has been given the opportunity to hold a talk on a school for two classes (over 40 people). Things will move slowly, but when we gain true momentum, nothing would stop us.

Re:NET sectorialisation. 4 years, 5 months ago #4523

I didn't actually thought that things are so ahead... From what I have managed to read around the site, and the forum, I deduced that not a lot of progress has been one... I'm glad to know that I was wrong...

A video of our november lecture is in production and will be put up on youtube.

Not so much forgot as not having anything to report yet. I’ve got most of the data in for the solar part of the energy survey. I need to finish that of then do the write up. If I get the time I could get the data collection done next week and then start analysis and doing the write up next year.

Well, we are a small organisation, not a lot of people and lots of things to do. The energy survey is a really a full time job but there is only me doing it and I’m working full time with a family so it gets done as and when I can in the bits of spare time that I have.

It would be good if we can get more volunteers to work on the energy survey. Most of it is just monkey work collecting data.

We do do other things as well. We have had a round of lectures at Umeå University. The latest one was yesterday on sustainability and sustainable development. We did one in November which was filmed and we have someone working on making that a film to put on the internet. Igor did events where he was last year too but he also works a lot on the site (our new site took quite a bit off work). I also wrote and published a book this year. (you can find that at www.technocracy.tk) and we have one member who is looking at correcting it so I hope to have an improved version out next year. We have been planning for experimenting with technocracy and that’s up at proto-technate.wikispaces.com/. We also have had wiki pages translated into other European languages.

So, a few things and not too bad given so few people are working on them but we still have lots more to do.

Given that we are broadening our filed of operations with the latest efforts put into the translation of website content into other than English languages and creation of local communities in language areas such as Swedish, Polish and other, we should also aim to broaden our organisational structure to support this geographic coverage. Without it we will be unable to handle the upcoming tasks specific to localised working groups and their successful interconnectivity.

It is my proposal that up until and on the next meeting we rethink our Logical structure to better reflect the changes in the Geographical structure. Each Sequence should open up coordinative positions aimed at the mentioned language areas. It is also important that these individuals are included into the Board of Directors and given equal organisative decision making rights as the current Directors do. This actions will fully reflect our tendencies to create a distributed non-centralised organisational structure that will serve as a model for future technocratic structures and organisations. It is part of our open source and self-reflective philosophy that we have commited ourselves to.

In order to fully integrate the new organisational staff we must also adapt the positions and their titles to emphasize the equality between all Directors on the Board. I strongly suggest that in this case we avoid using second level titles such as Deputy Director or Assistant Director for those that will have the determinant role in the localised communities. Instead of that they should assume the equal title as present Board members and that is "Director". Nevertheless, to differentiate between the Directors they should be given a suffix with reference to their area of operations. To present some real life examples I will use the current Board members and introduce their new titles according to this taxonomy. Andrew would retain his title of ''N.E.T. Director'' as this is not affected by my current proposal. Regarding his role as the coordinative person for the Sequence of Research he would take upon the title of ''Director of Research: Swedish Sector''. Similarly we would have for example Johan as ''Director of Relations: Swedish Sector''.

I must emphasize here that it is not obligatory in any way that the Directors of a certain localised Sector indeed live in that same sector (but this is, by all means, desired to be so). It is also very clear that the sectoral sequences are encouraged to cooperate among each other as the current sequences have done so until now (and will continue to do so in the future). I must also bring your attention to the English sector which will possibly bare most overlaps with Directors from other Sectors because of its universal characteristics (English being the most common spoken language). This however does not mean that it is not highly encouraged for the overlapping Directors to actively seek out individuals which will be able to take their duplicate positions instead of them. As these positions are filled so will the responsibilites and authorities move from the current Directors holding double positions (e.g. Enrique would most probably be holding the position of Sequence of Finance Director: Swedish and English Sectors) to new Directors included in the organisational staff.

Sequence of Finance, being a very specific sequence in some of its aspects, should introduce localised accounts which will store the income and cover the expenses from the localised working groups. This also includes collecting of membership fees from members of that language area. The projects carried out on a local level should be autonomous from other sectors, but are also obligated to invest into common projects of shared importance for the whole organisation.

Some of you may also be interested in the position of translation as a crucial element of integration between localised communities/working groups. To begin answering some questions I would like to inform you that it is my proposal that these working groups should remain under the coordination of Sequence of Administration as the activity itself is currently limited in scope and linked directly to the webpages (which are in turn the main project of SeqAdm). If and when such a need occurs, these working groups can be transfered under the Sequence of Relations or separated into an autonomous sequence.

Plainly put, requirements for becoming a Director are understanding of NET policies and regular attending of Board meetings.

I am aware that I have opened up many topics now so please address them individually.
