TOPIC: Grade of automatisation in the proto-technate

Grade of automatisation in the proto-technate 5 years, 11 months ago #1249

Do you think we should intend to spearhead technological development and have a higher grade of development in robotics within and for the ProtoTech than earlier intended by us? I think it is central that we at least try to gain one or two good sides in competiveness.

By making automatised production, and focus on a vertical production model, we could assume a higher level of cost-efficiency than most other agents within the price system. I think it is worth exploring.

My first thought towards industrialisation is rather the oppersite, that masses of cheap trained labour would instead offer a cheaper solution, as evident in China.

Because human labour is cheap there, they out perform specialist machines which after all, do cost something!

As the main requirements to human labour costs is housing and food, these could be provided at a very low cost and as such, a large number of people could work competively.

If you keep a high skill level and a high quality flexible level of equipment and tools for them to use, you could quickly respond to the demands of supply, rather than being stuck with an automated production line that can only produce one type of widget.

If we was to specialise, I might suggest energy production and house building as two directions to head.

At the moment, in the development of robotics, we are still a long way from what we think is around the corner tomorrow.

Having said that, 3D printers are helping with rapid development of prototype design and nanotechnology is very slowly beginning to have an effect in the market place.

To go such a route would require a huge investment, and I believe the first way of achieving that is through emulating how other countries have achieved this level of rapid progress in a relative short period of several decades.

Due to a shortage of manpower, and the fact that we aim to offer a higher quality of life makes that strategy non-feasible as a primary option, certainly as it would give the proto-technate a Jim Jones-esque reputation (aka a bad, really bad, reputation). Our production will be cheaper, but that is because that we will be self-sustaining in food an energy and therefore would not need to buy up that.

Industry requires a huge amount of energy production, above and beyond a few solar panels and into the area of MW.

I don't think once we have our first homes built, that manpower will then be in a shortage, if we offer cheap housing and jobs, what more do people want!

By those things alone, we will offer a much higher quality of life for many who currently either are homeless and living on the streets, or in poor quality over crowded homes without a job, with little in the way of training oppertunities.

I imagine we will have more of an issue with keeping people out, than finding people to join!

Once all the hard work of building the early homes in the first place is achieved that is..

  • Nanos : I was reading in the Umea Bio - Dome Group about how late last year there was talk of "Composite Technology" helping with production of a dome, and now it appears that is not currently happening, can anyone shed light on what happened there in more detail ?
